- You're both strongly influenced by Shania Twain?
- You can really rock a minidress?
- You're secretly a singer/songwriter in Nashville?
- You've been interrupted by Kanye West while accepting an award?
- You both have long legs?
- Who's Taylor Swift??!
Well, it's not really me that has anything in common with Ms. Swift -- except maybe the long legs? -- but one of the quilts I recently featured here on the blog shares her sense of style.
Let me introduce you to Leigh Ann, the creative mind behind my favorite new blog, Spincushion. Leigh Ann recently contacted me to see if I would mind if one of my quilts was featured on her blog as part of her Cover Quilts series. I replied "of course" (because I am always flattered when others want to feature my photos on their blog), but I must admit that I wasn't very familiar with the Spincushion blog.
Well, one peek and I was hooked. The Cover Quilts series is only one of Leigh Ann's ingenious creations. Color Cues, If a Quilt Lived Here, and Swatchtower are just a few of her other series of posts. High on style and beautiful imagery and low on a lot of unnecessary words -- I can probably take a few tips from Leigh Ann on this one -- her blog is pure eye candy for the fabric lover. I hope you'll check it out.
Here's my Cover Quilt. First, the cover ...
... and then the quilt photo that so magically complements the magazine cover. Isn't it cool how the colors and style can be presented in two totally different -- yet surprisingly similar -- ways?
What a fun game. Do you have any Cover Quilts in your collection?
Those are all really neat features of the Spincushion blog. I had fun looking at her imaginative posts on color and especially the decorative planning schemes based on an interior photo. Thanks for introducing me to LeighAnn's blog!
ReplyDeleteYahoo for you! That pattern is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteSweet. The colors really do match.
ReplyDeletePerfect match! The quilt is really beautiful.

One more blog added to my list... I'm hooked, too!! Thanks! :)
ReplyDeletelove this...lately I have been getting my inspiration from things like this. Martha Stewart Living has wonderful color combos!. But, you did the opposite, someone matched your quilt to a cover. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat is TOTALLY fun!!!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is really awesome. I love to make quilts featured on magazine covers. Sometimes I have to bug the owner of my local quilt shop to find the fabrics, as they're not always in her shop. I have made two cover quilts. One I had stored in my basement in a bag, and was working on it from time to time...went to find it one day and couldn't. I think someone unknowingly threw it out with the trash. That really hurt!
ReplyDeletethis is awesome! can't wait to check out her blog. when i read "You've been interrupted by Kanye West while accepting an award?" i laughed out loud. people are so creative. speaking of creative, i still love this quilt- so pretty. work it, mr swift (harhar.)
ReplyDeleteI was so excited when I saw this! Spincushion is my new fav blog :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words, John! The blog love is mutual.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, that is really neat! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific idea!! I took a look at some of the other cover quilts on her blog... brilliant! Although, I am partial to your... ;)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! This is TOTALLY fun!

Does anybody know what these fabrics are?? I must have them!!
ReplyDeleteHello! That's interesting and exiting! Your quilt is really beautiful!
ReplyDeletehmm cover quilts, Never thought of that. I do have something in common with Taylor Swift though, she and I grew up in the same community. And then she moved to Nashville and me to Utah. Weird.
ReplyDeleteI love that! :) I wish I had a cover quilt! This makes me want to keep an eye out, just in case I do! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is SO FREAKING AWESOME! And a cool new blog to me as well. Seriously, I can't stop looking at the two photos. I bet Kanye would be in awe, too!
ReplyDeleteHi, I've arrived at your blog via a long and winding road and WOW, love your cover quilt!!! Oh and I SO wish my husband would sew, 'cause although I love quilting, I love dreaming up the designs and buying the fabric, but where's the time to sew???
ReplyDeleteHoly cow - I am finishing up that exact quilt for my son, just different colors, mostly browns and teals. (A pic of my top is here - http://www.stitchingbystarlight.com/2011/02/quilt-top-done.html). It was such a fun pattern!
ReplyDeleteI love the bright and bold colors you chose and the quilting sets of the straight lines perfectly. It's so fun to see how different color combinations change the entire look. Gorgeous!
Oh yes! I love the oranges and pinks, it's so sherbety. I love taking cues from comercial packaging for colour palette quiltspiration. Those marketing folks are paid good money to come up with combos that work.
ReplyDeleteTOTALLY fun!
