July Quilting Bee Blocks

It's been pretty quiet on the sewing front around here. The move and subsequent unpacking & settling in combined with, well, the mere fact that it's summer has kept the whole family busy, and me -- generally exhausted from both all of the work associated with the move and the blasted HEAT -- away from my sewing room.

Thank goodness for at least a little bit of "obligation sewing" -- it gets me back to the machine when I might otherwise choose reruns of "The Millionaire Matchmaker" or some other such drivel on Bravo. (PS. Does anyone else fail to see any "real" in the lives of the "Real Housewives"?)

I took one evening last week and banged out two spider web blocks in a red & aqua color scheme. I know this is an EXTREMELY popular color combination these days, but I (surprisingly) had to dig pretty deep into my scrap bin to find enough pieces to make these two blocks. I guess it's not a palette that I naturally gravitate towards. Love 'em, though!

These blocks were made for the do.Good Stitches charity bee.

(P.S. these pictures were taken on my new back deck. Not a bad substitution for my old back deck, where all of my other pictures have always been taken, huh?)

  1. J-I don't think there is much real in any "reality" tv shows, except maybe the fact that they are most likely their "real" names... The blocks look great, one of my favorite color combos, too, but I have far more green & aqua scraps than I do red scraps in my bin.

  2. What is it about the drivel that sucks us in? Storage Wars on A&E is my current "train wreck" show - I know it's bad, but I can't look away. Those blocks should make for an awesome quilt!

  10. New deck new schmeck… I wanna see the new house! Love those blocks of yours, LOVE THEM! And you know how I love me my Bravo too, but yeah… "real" is questionable word for most of the housewives! Cept' for Caroline Manzo… I think she gets a pass (she's so awesome!). And OMG, how Ashley treats her mom breaks my heart. Look what you did, John… you got me all going on the RHONJ...

  16. First, the quilt blocks are great. I love the colors. And as far as I can tell the real whatever wives on tv are not anything like real housewives. Spoiled little princesses that think money, bling, and who looks the best are the only important things in life. I actually feel sorry for them, someday they will realize how petty they are.

  17. These are terrific blocks! The colors are really fine and red is one of my favorite color. It's so nice that the colors are well combined. This will attract you when you see this from afar.
