Timeless Treasures Stitch Star Giveaway

Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while may have already seen a mention or two about my love for reality TV. While I do love a good episode of the Real Housewives every now and again (don't judge me!), the shows I am really drawn to are the competition shows where the contestants actually have some real talent. I'm talking about shows like Top Chef, Project Runway, Design Star, and Work of Art. In all of these shows, those competing bring true talent, skill, and creativity to the table -- OK, well most of them do -- and it's exhilarating to be able to observe the creative process in action.

That's why I'm SO excited that the wonderful team at Timeless Treasures Fabrics -- home of some of my favorite fabric designers (such as Mo Bedell, Rashida Coleman-Hale, and the Dear Stella gang) -- has invited me to be one of the judges in their Stitch Star contest!

I'm a Stitch Star judge!

So what, exactly is Stitch Star? Well, like those competition shows I mentioned, it's a way to earn cash money and amazing prizes by doing something you already love -- showcasing your creativity by making a one-of-a-kind quilt. And while it won't be televised, your quilt will travel to my hometown of New York City to be displayed alongside all of the other entries.

I'm thrilled (and a bit nervous, to be frank) to be judging the contest alongside Lorry Chwazik (who I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting), and my friend Susanne Woods of Stash Books. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be the Simon Cowell of the panel or not, but it's more likely that I'll play the Paula role ("I love them ALL!")

Timeless Treasures asked each of us to create a short video introducing ourselves to the contest entrants. I'm not a huge fan of being on video so I stressed and stressed about this right up until 11:30PM on the night before the deadline, when I finally decided to stop worrying about it, sit down in my kitchen, flip on the webcam on my Macbook, and wing it. I hope I didn't come across like too much of a tool. Wanna see it?:

OK, that was embarrassing.

Earlier, I mentioned some great contest prizes (and cash money). Here's what's on the line in the Stitch Star contest:
  • 1st Prize: $5,000 and a Horizon Memory Craft 7700QCP Sewing Machine by Janome, a $2,999.00 value!
  • 2nd Prize: $1,000 and 20 yards of our newest fabric.
  • 3rd Prize: $750 and 20 yards of our newest fabric.
  • People's Choice Award: 20 yards of our newest fabric.
Worth playing for? Well, d'uh. There's a lot more to know about the competition, including how to enter and more specific information about the quilts that will be considered.

To celebrate the kick-off of the Stitch Star contest, Timeless Treasures and I would love to offer up a giveaway prize here on my blog. All of the Stitch Star contest entries must use at least two pieces of fabric from Timeless Treasures' new Plume or Orange Crush lines, or one fabric from each collection, along with their Stitch Star complements basics collection.

I'd love to inspire you to start creating, so one winner will receive four pieces of one of TT's newest collections as well as a “teaser” piece of Orange Crush or Plume. All you have to do for your chance to win is to first head over and “like” the Timeless Treasures Facebook page. Once you've done that, come back and leave a comment here on my blog telling me about a dream project that you would love to make out of these vibrant fabric collection. (In your comment, please indicate that you completed the Facebook step already.)

I'll pick one lucky winner sometime before Christmas day. And stay tuned for more updates about my journey as a Timeless Treasures Stitch Star judge. Good luck, & Happy Holidays!

  2. I did the FB step, and now I am dreaming about that Orange Crush fabric - I love orange! It is my feel good, make me happy color. Because of that, I'd like to make a bag for myself, and maybe a pillow.

  3. I "like" Timeless Treasures, and am making a quilt with Tonga right now! It would be a blast to enter a contest like this. Love the peacock colors. Although Tango Tangerine is the Pantone color of the year, and those oranges would be perfect to play that up in something fun. Thanks.

  4. Wow-- this sounds exciting and fun!! I visited FB and "liked" Timeless Treasures. I'm not sure exactly what I would create with these beautiful fabrics-- my mind would need some time to brew on that. I would probably make more of an art quilt, as opposed to a "pattern". I'm very into nature, so it would probably be influenced by that. This challenge sounds like a fun, creative exercise. Thanks for this giveaway opportunity!

  5. Completed the Facebook like. I would love to use some of those blues in a disappearing 9 patch scrappy quilt that I hope to have grace my daughter's bed when she wakes on her 15th birthday. She has requested blues, greens and purples.

  6. Your video was great, John! At first my reaction was no way, you have way too much to do before June 1st, don't even consider this contest, exit before you commit. Then I remembered I've been collecting orange for my stash all year and haven't yet worked with it. So, my dream project would be to create a quilt that really shows off my orange stash...AND I have a plan, so bring it on! I liked TT on FB.

  7. I liked them on FB... I would love to make a king sized quilt with the new fabrics on your post-all those blues and teals send me!! Love the tonga green tea group also. What an exciting contest! Congrats on your judgeship!

  8. I already like TT AND they sent me a bundle like you're giving away for being the first person to sign up for the contest online, so please don't include me for the contest! I just wanted to comment to Poppyprint above that I think you're only allowed to use the official TT Plume and Orange Crush fabrics and the Stitch Star Coordinate fabrics that they've designated. That's how I read the rules, anyway, someone correct me if I'm wrong!

  14. Oh wow - what beautiful fabric. I went to FB and liked Timeless Treasures, then I sat and stared at the fabric shots, trying to imagine what I'd do with either collection. I think I'd make a quilt - not just any old quilt, though. It would have to be a work of art and be on display.

  15. I've liked on FB, as to what to make, that's hard cos I love that range so much! I think some sort of wall quilt; I'm sure there's room somewhere here to display one and that way it's out of reach of children and kittens.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Those peacock prints are exquisite. I already have some of the range! I'd probably make a quilt, as per usual. Or perhaps cushions. They'd make gorgeous cushions to accent a lounge!

I just went and Liked the TT Facebook page.

While the Orange Crush is bright and cheerful, I'm really drawn to the Plume fabrics you showed. I haven't seen them at a quilt shop yet, so I'll be looking for them now. Thanks!

  42. Last night, while watching one of my favourite movies, Moulin Rouge...it occurred to me that it would be great to make a tribute quilt about this film one day. I imagined a blue elephant, red hearts, scenes of Paris and the words of the bohemian creed : "Freedom, beauty, truth and love" captured in fabric. It was late, I went to bed. This morning I checked out your blog and Voila! both the Plume and Orange Crush fabrics would be perfect for this imagined quilt - now I know I will have to make it someday. Thanks for the continued inspiration!

  43. I would love to win some of these fabrics! I would definitely make a quilt with bright vibrant colors like the orange crush!

  47. Liked them. I've been a TT fan for many years. What would I do with these fun fabrics. It's a no brainer in my little world here. It would be a quilt for my grandaughter. It should be done just about the same time she moves into her 'big girl' bed!! It's a color theme that would grow with her.

I really like timeless treasures fabrics and have used a number of their fabrics over the years in my quilts. It was easy to like them on facebook.
I am always drawn to turquoise and deep blues so that is my favorite colors of the two collections.
They would make a beautiful quilt maybe using a braid design and set off with black - it would be very pretty.
Congratulations on being chosen as a judge. You will do a fabulous job.
Best wishes to you and your family over the holiday season. I am sure that it will an exciting time for your children. They are a great age for holiday happenings.
Hope the elbow is all mended and not giving you any grief either.
