Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while may have already seen a mention or two about my love for reality TV. While I do love a good episode of the Real Housewives every now and again (don't judge me!), the shows I am really drawn to are the competition shows where the contestants actually have some real talent. I'm talking about shows like Top Chef, Project Runway, Design Star, and Work of Art. In all of these shows, those competing bring true talent, skill, and creativity to the table -- OK, well most of them do -- and it's exhilarating to be able to observe the creative process in action.
That's why I'm SO excited that the wonderful team at Timeless Treasures Fabrics -- home of some of my favorite fabric designers (such as Mo Bedell, Rashida Coleman-Hale, and the Dear Stella gang) -- has invited me to be one of the judges in their Stitch Star contest!
So what, exactly is Stitch Star? Well, like those competition shows I mentioned, it's a way to earn cash money and amazing prizes by doing something you already love -- showcasing your creativity by making a one-of-a-kind quilt. And while it won't be televised, your quilt will travel to my hometown of New York City to be displayed alongside all of the other entries.
I'm thrilled (and a bit nervous, to be frank) to be judging the contest alongside Lorry Chwazik (who I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting), and my friend Susanne Woods of Stash Books. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be the Simon Cowell of the panel or not, but it's more likely that I'll play the Paula role ("I love them ALL!")
Timeless Treasures asked each of us to create a short video introducing ourselves to the contest entrants. I'm not a huge fan of being on video so I stressed and stressed about this right up until 11:30PM on the night before the deadline, when I finally decided to stop worrying about it, sit down in my kitchen, flip on the webcam on my Macbook, and wing it. I hope I didn't come across like too much of a tool. Wanna see it?:
OK, that was embarrassing.
Earlier, I mentioned some great contest prizes (and cash money). Here's what's on the line in the Stitch Star contest:

Earlier, I mentioned some great contest prizes (and cash money). Here's what's on the line in the Stitch Star contest:
- 1st Prize: $5,000 and a Horizon Memory Craft 7700QCP Sewing Machine by Janome, a $2,999.00 value!
- 2nd Prize: $1,000 and 20 yards of our newest fabric.
- 3rd Prize: $750 and 20 yards of our newest fabric.
- People's Choice Award: 20 yards of our newest fabric.
I'd love to inspire you to start creating, so one winner will receive four pieces of one of TT's newest collections as well as a “teaser” piece of Orange Crush or Plume. All you have to do for your chance to win is to first head over and “like” the Timeless Treasures Facebook page. Once you've done that, come back and leave a comment here on my blog telling me about a dream project that you would love to make out of these vibrant fabric collection. (In your comment, please indicate that you completed the Facebook step already.)
I'll pick one lucky winner sometime before Christmas day. And stay tuned for more updates about my journey as a Timeless Treasures Stitch Star judge. Good luck, & Happy Holidays!
I'd love to work some peacock prints into a garment!
ReplyDeleteI did the FB step, and now I am dreaming about that Orange Crush fabric - I love orange! It is my feel good, make me happy color. Because of that, I'd like to make a bag for myself, and maybe a pillow.
ReplyDeleteI "like" Timeless Treasures, and am making a quilt with Tonga right now! It would be a blast to enter a contest like this. Love the peacock colors. Although Tango Tangerine is the Pantone color of the year, and those oranges would be perfect to play that up in something fun. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWow-- this sounds exciting and fun!! I visited FB and "liked" Timeless Treasures. I'm not sure exactly what I would create with these beautiful fabrics-- my mind would need some time to brew on that. I would probably make more of an art quilt, as opposed to a "pattern". I'm very into nature, so it would probably be influenced by that. This challenge sounds like a fun, creative exercise. Thanks for this giveaway opportunity!
ReplyDeleteCompleted the Facebook like. I would love to use some of those blues in a disappearing 9 patch scrappy quilt that I hope to have grace my daughter's bed when she wakes on her 15th birthday. She has requested blues, greens and purples.
ReplyDeleteYour video was great, John! At first my reaction was no way, you have way too much to do before June 1st, don't even consider this contest, exit before you commit. Then I remembered I've been collecting orange for my stash all year and haven't yet worked with it. So, my dream project would be to create a quilt that really shows off my orange stash...AND I have a plan, so bring it on! I liked TT on FB.
ReplyDeleteI liked them on FB... I would love to make a king sized quilt with the new fabrics on your post-all those blues and teals send me!! Love the tonga green tea group also. What an exciting contest! Congrats on your judgeship!
ReplyDeleteI already like TT AND they sent me a bundle like you're giving away for being the first person to sign up for the contest online, so please don't include me for the contest! I just wanted to comment to Poppyprint above that I think you're only allowed to use the official TT Plume and Orange Crush fabrics and the Stitch Star Coordinate fabrics that they've designated. That's how I read the rules, anyway, someone correct me if I'm wrong!
ReplyDeleteI liked them on FB. I would love some of that Orange Crush fabric for a star quilt I have on my bucket list.
ReplyDeleteA dream project would be to make my faces quilt. A project I've had in mind forever. Circles, with mix and match shapes that turn it into a quilt of many faces.. you will just have to see it someday :)
ReplyDeleteI think the plume fabric would go well in a wall hanging. I have liked TT on facebook.
ReplyDeleteLiving in the Great Smoky Mtns. I would do a great sunset or sunrise with the awesome mtns. as the background. How could it not turn out anything but eyecandy. The colors are brilliant. The plumes can be brought into play also
ReplyDeleteI liked their Facebook page.
ReplyDeleteI would make a fully lined jacket with that Plume fabric.
Nice!
Oh wow - what beautiful fabric. I went to FB and liked Timeless Treasures, then I sat and stared at the fabric shots, trying to imagine what I'd do with either collection. I think I'd make a quilt - not just any old quilt, though. It would have to be a work of art and be on display.
ReplyDeleteI've liked on FB, as to what to make, that's hard cos I love that range so much! I think some sort of wall quilt; I'm sure there's room somewhere here to display one and that way it's out of reach of children and kittens.
ReplyDeleteThose peacock prints are exquisite. I already have some of the range! I'd probably make a quilt, as per usual. Or perhaps cushions. They'd make gorgeous cushions to accent a lounge!
ReplyDeleteI just went and Liked the TT Facebook page.
I had no problem "liking"the Timeless Treasure page. I love the blues and greens of the plumes. Not sure what I would make, yet. I've been playing with piecing lately and experimenting with this project and that, and enjoying them all.
ReplyDeleteI liked Timeless Treasures on Facebook. I love both color ways, so vibrant. I can just see them in quilts with white or black backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity! I liked their Facebook page :) I'd love to make a nice, bright wall hanging for above our couch with the Orange Crush fabrics....matches our orange hallway!
ReplyDeleteI did the like on FB but I LOVE the blue and orange colourways. Seriously gorgeous collections!
ReplyDeleteI think I would make the blue into some owl throw pillows I have been dreaming about. And the orange? Okay that would be owls too. What can I say, I am really excited to start making some owl throw pillows!
I liked their Facebook page:) I would make a quilt for my daughter's bed. She's 14 and it's time to update. They grow so fast! I think she would love the colors!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, you will make a fantastic judge.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of Timeless Treasures, what a great site! I have liked them on FB as well. I have been wanting to make a quilt of my 2 daughters beds. My eldest loves bright colors and my next oldest loves pink! They share are room so this would be fabulous for them both! Yeah!!
ReplyDeletelike Timeless Treasures on FB. I'd love to work this into a bright and cheery mini quilt.
ReplyDeleteLiked Timeless Treasures on FB. Always fabric for a quilt.

I like them on Facebook and woul love to upholster a chair in this!
ReplyDeleteI Liked them on Facebook and I like them in real life as well. That pink orange zesty fabric would make a wonderful summer quilt. Maybe orange/citrus slices?
ReplyDeleteI like them :)
ReplyDeleteI would make pillows! These fabrics are so vibrant, they would cheer up my living room.
Susanne
I would make a quilt with the plume collection to go over the back of my reading chair (yes I have a chair just for reading) because the colors are perfect for it! I also liked TT on FB
ReplyDeleteI liked their FB-page
ReplyDeleteThe Orange Crush line would be perfect for a bright and funny quilt for my three year old daughter. She would love it.
I can see a really cool quilt made with the orange crush. My second favorite color is orange. I did the fb thingy
ReplyDeleteSince it's cold and gloomy outside today, the Orange Crush looks like a breath of springtime. I'd use it for a quilt with strong, clean lines. I liked TT on FB.
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteThank you Sleepytime Quilts for clarifying! All contest entries must use at least two cuts from either Plume or Orange Crush, with an option to use the Stitch Star Complements as well. For all the details, please visit http://www.ttfabrics.com/contest/stitchstar/.
Best of Luck and Happy Crafting!
Your Friends at TTFabrics.com
Love the Plume line, it would make a wonderful NY Beauty quilt! If I could find it in my local store, I'd buy it and make a quilt for the Timeless Treasure quilt show you're judging. (I liked TT on FB).
ReplyDeleteI like Timesless Treasures Fabrics on FB! Beautiful fabrics, I like both but have heard that orange is to be the next big color and it is always a favorite of mine. I would love to make a quilt out of it, perfect color for our bedroom!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think you embarrassed yourself at all, plus you gave some good information about what you'd like to see, as a judge. Great job! While the Orange Crush is bright and cheerful, I'm really drawn to the Plume fabrics you showed. I haven't seen them at a quilt shop yet, so I'll be looking for them now. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOoops, sorry, I don't do facebook, and never will, so if that disqualifies me, it's okay. =)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that Plume fabric is to die for. I have been eying up a zig zag quilt for a while and have been waiting for the right fabric to come along. Plume is it!
ReplyDeleteOh and I 'liked' Timeless Treasures facebook page too.
I liked on FB. And I like both fabric lines. I have been playing around with an idea for a while now and I think it would really pop with the orange. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI went to facebook page . I love both lines . I could see a wall hanging with a BIG sun in the oranges along with some of the purples . Love it . Have a GREAT day . Merry Christmas to you and yours . Thanks for the chance to win . Good luck on the judging . Carol in The Poconos of Pa fiberdiva@verizon.net
ReplyDeleteLast night, while watching one of my favourite movies, Moulin Rouge...it occurred to me that it would be great to make a tribute quilt about this film one day. I imagined a blue elephant, red hearts, scenes of Paris and the words of the bohemian creed : "Freedom, beauty, truth and love" captured in fabric. It was late, I went to bed. This morning I checked out your blog and Voila! both the Plume and Orange Crush fabrics would be perfect for this imagined quilt - now I know I will have to make it someday. Thanks for the continued inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win some of these fabrics! I would definitely make a quilt with bright vibrant colors like the orange crush!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I've liked Timeless Treasures on fbook : )
Hi, John. I liked the fb page. I live in a neighborhood where peacocks roam freely, so I think that I would like to make an "around my block" quilt. I love your blog! You are so creative and generous. (hrmaris at yahoo dot com). Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAfter liking Timeless Treasures, all I can say is ORANGE! The top right corner with yellow and orange makes me so happy - Id' make a snuggly couch quilt I could see every time I walk past the living room. A pop of my favorite color would brighten up every day. :)
ReplyDeleteMy dream project for the Crush line would be to completely outfit my 70s era travel trailer with curtains, table cover, quilt and pillows. The wildly bold colors would make it such a happy place. I think I NEED to make it happen!
ReplyDeleteI liked Timeless Treasures on FB.
Liked them. I've been a TT fan for many years. What would I do with these fun fabrics. It's a no brainer in my little world here. It would be a quilt for my grandaughter. It should be done just about the same time she moves into her 'big girl' bed!! It's a color theme that would grow with her.
ReplyDeletekimpe@izoom.net
Liked Timeless Treasures on FB. I can never determine what I would make until I actually see the fabric rather than a picture.
ReplyDeleteBoth collections are fabulous! I would love to use either in some ultra traditional pattern to give it a really modern look!
ReplyDeleteI would create the ultimate nursery for my step daugther's first child in April. I am already a followr of TT FB page.
ReplyDeleteOh I am digging the orange crush! Would love to win!
ReplyDeleteLove this line! Sure would perk up a baby quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to create some bold menswear designs with these fabrics for spring 2012!!
ReplyDeleteHI John,
ReplyDeleteI really like timeless treasures fabrics and have used a number of their fabrics over the years in my quilts. It was easy to like them on facebook.
I am always drawn to turquoise and deep blues so that is my favorite colors of the two collections.
They would make a beautiful quilt maybe using a braid design and set off with black - it would be very pretty.
Congratulations on being chosen as a judge. You will do a fabulous job.
Best wishes to you and your family over the holiday season. I am sure that it will an exciting time for your children. They are a great age for holiday happenings.
Hope the elbow is all mended and not giving you any grief either.
With best wishes,
quiltmom Anna
I like green eggs and ham!
ReplyDeleteI do!! I like them, Sam-I-am!
err...I mean, I like Timeless Treasures. :)
Those colors are awesome. I can see them taking place in a international flare throw I am going to be making with some FQs from a swap I am participating in.
I "liked" on Fb. I would use the orange to make favors and other decor for my March wedding.
ReplyDeleteI like Timeless Treasures on FB! I love these fabrics, especially the Orange Crush...so birght and happy. I would love to make a Kaleidoscope quilt with the fabrics - I think they would look amazing!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being a judge on Timeless Stitch Star - you'll rock it...how fun!
I like TT on FB.
ReplyDeleteOne question... I read through the contest details and I just want to double check that it doesn't have to be an original item right? You can use a pattern by someone else?
I "liked" Timeless Treasures on FB. Great colors and patterns! I would choose the Orange Crush - love the bright colors and they would perk up any quilt! I'm finishing up a quilt now and have not had time to think of the next new quilt, but I'm something wonky would be fun.
ReplyDeleteThe Timeless Stitch Star looks like a great opportunity - congrats on being a judge!
Just liked the Timeless Treasures blog and love the Orange Crush line. My dream project is to make very large quilts representing the sun, the moon and the stars to hang as a triptych.
ReplyDeleteI like them on Facebook. the saturated and intense colors of plume are incredible. really match the winter mood I"m in. I'm interested in really getting into making clothing right now, so I could see some of those fabrics as a dress of a skirt, even a cute button up shirt.
ReplyDeleteahappystitch (at) gmail (dot) com
by the way, your video is great! and the quilt judge role is awesome. super fun! congrats.
ReplyDeleteI liked Timeless Treasures. I would love to use the fabric to make a quilt in a design that challenges my abilities.
ReplyDeleteOh my....I can't believe how perfect ALL that fabric would be for a warm/cool quilt! That's what I'd do for a dream quilt :)
ReplyDeleteOmg!!! I am in LOVE with those orange fabrics!!!!! I'd totally just make myself a modern orange and white quilt.
