Welcome to today's STOP on the Stop. Go. Quilt. Sew! blog tour. I'm so happy for friend, blogger, and fellow Moda Bake Shop chef Angela Yosten upon the release of her very first book for Stash Books. Stop. Go. Quilt. Sew! is a fun book of sewing projects for the little (and not so little) boys in your life. All of the projects revolve around the theme of traffic signs, which makes for a unique and cohesive collection of projects for all skill levels.
I'm so glad to see so many new and creative projects aimed for boys and men, traditionally the most notoriously difficult audience to find a variety of appropriate quilt and sewing patterns for. Whereas Sewing for Boys covered apparel and Geared for Guys provided quilt patterns for teens and men, Angela's book has the youth market covered. Adding to the cohesive nature of the book is Angela's choice to make all of her projects in true scrappy style.
Take a look at this adorable bedding ensemble, featuring several projects all included in the book:
One of my favorite projects is this One Way Growth Chart. Even if you didn't have a growing boy in your household, I think this would make a really modern and graphic conversation piece for any wall.
Angela asked us to share a road sign that captures something about ourselves or our lives as part of the post. I came across this image and thought it was perfect! I don't know about you guys, but I've been having a great time watching the Summer Olympics these past 2 weeks ... even though it has been at the expense of making progress on my sewing projects. I only wish I could be in London watching the games with all of my British friends!
Now's your chance to win a copy of Stop. Go. Quilt. Sew! Simply leave a comment on this post, and tell me your favorite fabric lines that feature awesome prints in the basic colors of RED, YELLOW, GREEN, and BLACK (since those would come in super handy for making the projects in this book.) The winner will be randomly selected and announced here on my blog on Monday, August 20th. (Note: US winners will receive a hard copy of the book, while winners outside of the US will win an e-book.) Good luck!
** NOTE: Giveaway is now closed. Thanks for playing! **

Oval Elements. Awesome. Or those pezzy prints would work nicely, too.
ReplyDeleteAmerican Jane School Days would be great for this.
ReplyDeleteWell, I love Kona solids and they have all those colors (and MANY more) but the favorite print line would have to be Riley Blake Chevrons followed very closely by Route 66.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite fabrics with red is Bliss by Camille and Bonnie for Moda!
ReplyDeleteI think any of the sweet water collections combined would make these projects shizzle
ReplyDeleteKona solids paired with Michael Miller Ta Dots would be nice and graphic - maybe the black/white RBD Chevrons too.
ReplyDeleteI think the designs need to be done in a solid so kona would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteI think pezzy prints would be great for these quilts!
ReplyDeleteUm I don't now all the lines, but I think kona solids is a good choice.
ReplyDeleteIt may not have a lot of yellow/green/red/black, but I think Peak Hour might be fun for some of these projects! I've been looking for a great excuse to get some for my twin boys...
ReplyDeleteI think Reunion by Sweetwater or some of their separates from other collections. I like the lime green and grays plus there are also reds and blues that would be boy appropriate.
ReplyDeleteHalf Moon Modern would be the fabric range for me. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this fab book.
ReplyDeleteI think Kristian A. Howell's Fizz from the Fruit Slice collection by Anthology Fabrics would be terrific.
ReplyDeleteI think some of the black prints in Mama Said Sew would be fun!
ReplyDeleteLove Marmalade by Bonnie & Camille for red, yellow and green. For Black I would be very tempted to get some black sketch fabric. In fact I think all of the sketch fabrics would do these projects very well! x
ReplyDeleteThere are some black & white & red prints in "Hip 2 B Square" by Studio 37 For Marcus Fabrics that would be great!
ReplyDeleteI think the new Mama said sew line by sweetwater would be good for some of these, just add some yellow tadots or chevrons from Riley Blake.
ReplyDeleteI love Kona solids. I think this book is AWESOME. I always thought the market for boy and men patterns was vastly under covered, but this is just fantastic patterns that cover it so well!
ReplyDeleteI must be a terrible quilter....I don't have favorite fabric lines...Truly the only known 'name' of something I purchase...Levi's...and that only because I have been living in Levi's since the '70's. When it comes to buying fabrics...I go with what I see that I like...gasp...I am certain I even mix fabric lines in the same project. But then, isn't that what a child of the '60's must do......break from tradition, adjust the rules and create free from the bonds of labels? :) Seriously, I never pay attention to fabric names....I would be hard pressed to give the name of any fabric, yet, I could describe the fabric to the very last detail and smallest fiber!

Kona solids
ReplyDeleteI love red and would probably go with Moda's Cosmo 1934 line for those cool typewriter letters in red and green and mix in some Kona solids.
ReplyDeleteMy all time favorite black and green line was Authentic by Sweetwater!
ReplyDeleteI think Lauri Wisburn's "Next Stop London" line would be perfect for this project, paired with some "Ta-dots", and of course Kona solids. Thanks for the chance to win an awesome book I can't wait to check it out. :-)
ReplyDeleteI would use some of the red and black from Moda's Reunion line or 1934.
ReplyDeletesamkaydesigns(at)gmail(dot)com
There are some fun blacks, reds and greys from Timeless Treasures!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many great choices mentioned above also, great ideas from all!
Kona solids and maybe Lucy's Crab Shack!
ReplyDeleteI think the metro circles would be awesome to use in these projects!
ReplyDeleteHI! LOVE 'TA DOTS' AND ADD BLACK!
ReplyDeleteTHANKS FOR SHARING!

I like oval elements, chevrons, and dots! Kona solids would also be great. I love the picture you found and I might try to make something using it for my son-in-law. He won gold at the Olympics for Skeet. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of Angela's book.
ReplyDeleteI like Kona soilds. So many colors to choose from.
ReplyDeleteI think I would try stash fabrics just to see where it would lead.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say the Chevrons would look great, and and also some pezzy prints :)
ReplyDeleteI think I would mix up a bunch of fun prints like Bungle Jungle, Apple Jack, Simply Color and ABC all from Moda. They pretty much have all the colors covered.
ReplyDeleteI think I would probably go with stash for those colors. But I think the Ombre Dots that just came out have those colors and could be really cool with these patterns!
ReplyDeleteModa half moons seems like a great place to start.
ReplyDeletei think Kona solids would be the best bet, too!
ReplyDeleteI have a red, white, black Scottie dog print that would be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCute ideas for the little guys!! I think Kona Solids would be awesome on some of these projects. Thanks for a chance to win this book.
ReplyDeleteWell it my sound funny but I am solids girl ( or old woman). I like kona solids but oval elements are prints and so are ombre dots. Have to think about quilting for boys. That is where you could have fun with solids here with straight stitch and zig zags. It puts texture on a solid.
ReplyDeleteI love the DS prints that JoAnn's has...there are some great green ones! I've been stuck on my Swoon quilt and am using mostly her prints. The book looks really great, BTW!
ReplyDeleteI got the red, yellow, green and black polka dots fabrics that would be great!
ReplyDeleteI think solid kona would be perfect for this. eatkin85@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI think the Robert Kaufman Quilter's Linens would be perfect for these cute projects!
ReplyDeleteI love solids.
ReplyDelete:)
Love the new ovals, would look good in these projects.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any favorite lines of fabric, I just buy what "strikes" me no matter from what line. I do like Kona solids though.
ReplyDeleteLove the book, great projects for boys. Thanks for the giveaway
They closest I could think of is Fruit Slice which has red, yellow, (lime) green, and GREY. It also has turquoise and orange.
ReplyDeleteBaby's First Sight by Michael Miller had some awsome red, black & white prints.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun patterns! I think Metro Living circles would be great for some of these designs. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteReunion .....love that line!!!!
ReplyDeleteI rarely make a quilt from just ine line--I would rather use 30-40 different reds, yellows, greens and blacks.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was a combination of various Sweetwater lines.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say my favoriite would probably be Kona Solids. Thanks for sharing the details on this new book. I look forward to adding it to my library.
ReplyDeleteI recently started using more solid colours, so I would have to say the Kona solids. Thanks.
ReplyDeletePat Sloan has a new line out right now that has some very bright and bold colors that would work great for some of Angela's designs. Love what I'm seeing in the book so far.
ReplyDeleteAh I would say Summersville for the reds and greens. I'd go with a Kona yellow I guess or a yellow/white chevron. Looks like a fab book!
ReplyDeleteKona solids! A definate!
ReplyDeleteCombine kona solids with Riley Blake chevrons and I think the would have some fantastic projects! I love this book and the projects inside. If I don't win I will buy it for sure!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to make something in the Pezzy Prints.
ReplyDeletepaweis at yahoo dot com
I would try Metro Living Circles from Robert Kaufman
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great book. I can't get enough of Northcott's fabrics!
ReplyDeleteJune momabeel@rochester.rr.com
I think that Ed Emberley's fabric would be great for boys, those dragons are very masculine! And the loops are a good gender-neutral small scale print.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to use the Riley Blake Chevrons and maybe some Pezzy Prints! Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!
ReplyDeleteDon't really know of a fabric line but tiny little polka dots are great! Colour dots on white and white dots on colour. Nyla-Jean, quilt.knightly@yahoo.ca
ReplyDeleteI think the Pezzy Prints by American Jane would work well for some of these designs. But some Kona solids in primary colors would be great to mix in too!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite fabric line, that is difficult. It changes day by day. I love them all, especially those with bright colors, reds, teals, yellows, oranges. Thank you for this giveaway.
ReplyDeleteHave a super great sewing and stitching day!
I've gotten in a rut but after seeing all these fabulous signs I started the one way sign!
ReplyDeleteI would use Moda's Half Moon Modern fabrics - bold colour and humour!!
ReplyDeleteI am no good with answering questions on the"spot". I hope this does not disqualify me.I need time to meander maybe shop or at least look before answering a question with to many answers. Thank-you for the give away entry. I enjoy your site and appreciate all the effort and work you put into it.Thank-you very much. Becky
ReplyDeleteI love all the fabrics from Riley Blake. Its just seems like they know what I like. The more recent one in this like with RED, YELLOW AND GREEN is the Apple of my Eye. The Puppy Park has some black which will go well too. Also Peak hour is another fabric line which has some green, gray and white....
ReplyDeleteWow, have a great tour! Keep up the awesome work!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try out some Riley Blake Chevrons in one of these (or any project, for that matter!).
ReplyDeleteI think Riley Blake Chevron and Pezzy Prints combined with Kona solids would work nicely.
ReplyDeleteI'm all caught up to present day reading through your blog, John. I'll keep reading and hopefully have the opportunity to enter some giveaways. Still thinking about a blog of my own but it will have to wait until life settles down late in Sept. Too much going on now including ongoing training of Axl (4 1/2 mo. old Golden Retriever puppy). Which reminds me, we haven't seen a picture of Tula lately. N
I am liking the new Chevron by Riley Blake Designs, and there are red chevrons, green and black ones too, in different sizes, it would be great for projects in this book!
ReplyDeleteI love the bright colors and bold, geometric, city-inspired prints in Robert Kaufman's "Metro Living" collection: I bet those fabrics combined with some Kona solids would be great for these signpost projects!
ReplyDeleteI'd start with Summers ville and add some solids or dots. thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI vote for solids. I'm also not up on designer lines, but I'd also use polka dots and circles - from any line I like.
ReplyDeleteI'm really loving the Riley Blake Chevrons! They come in small, medium and large size, along with all the colors,.. What's not to love?! This book looks fabulous! I have 4 boys and I'm always having trouble finding projects that would work for them. Thanks for this chance!
ReplyDeleteAfter thinking for years that quilting was out of my league, I decided to take the plunge and just start. I'm not able to take quilting classes, so I've been learning on my own with library books....which are as addictive as...3 Musketeer Bars, storage containers, the color red and polka dots. (I was going to say as addictive as crack, but I went with my own addictions!) :) I just got your book and love it, so I thought I'd check out your website. You said to say hi, so HI! :) I'm working on 2 quilts now and if I spent less time in the quilt books (and searching for more on-line) and blogs, I'd probably have a lot more done. And, well, if I had actually followed a pattern instead of coming up with my own brilliant plans, I might have actually finished one of them... Oy. Anyway, have a great day! --Kimberly from Austin
