I recently received a review copy of the book Stash Happy Patchwork: 25 Sewing Projects for Fabric Lovers by Cynthia Shaffer from my friends on the Lark Needleworks team. After having the chance to browse through the book and its many project ideas, I wanted to pass along some of my favorites ... and also give you all the chance to win your very own copy!
So what's this book all about? As you may have gathered from the title, it's all about sewing from your stash -- you know, all of those treasured little bits and scraps left over from your finished projects. According to Cynthia, the book features "a collection of projects to feature your favorite fabrics, make the most of your scraps, and offer fun ways to upcycle things you've never considered part of your stash before."
This adorable project is called the Panda Bolster, and it's definitely something I could see myself making for a newborn baby or a child's birthday present ... similar to my other favorite softie project, Owlie McPillowpants! The instructions look totally do-able, and there are even some notes on how to modify the project to be a pig, dog, or tiger.
I thought this Bento Box project idea was a clever twist on the homemade lunch bag, and it looks great made up with those Joel Dewberry fabrics.
A scoodie? I probably won't make be making one of these for myself, but I thought it was a really clever and unique idea. With the right fabrics -- maybe some Lisette prints, Ruby Star Spring, or even some coveted Liberty fabrics? -- I think this could make a really fun Christmas gift idea.
The book says that it would work great as a toy tote or for car trips, but I can think of so many different ways that this can be used. And since I've already mentioned Christmas gifts in this post -- it's September, so isn't it about time we start thinking about them?? -- how cool would it be to "wrap" your gifts in these fun totes?
There are many more projects in the book -- 21, to be exact! -- and they range from aprons to children's garments, from bags to pillows, and from quilts to a wide variety of home decor items. I would certainly say that there's certainly something in this book for everyone.
So what's my verdict? Overall, I think that Stash Happy Patchwork would make a solid addition to a sewist's library. Given the current price of single patterns, I consider most books a pretty good investment even if only 2 or 3 project ideas appeal to me. While there are certainly a few projects in the book that I won't likely make, it easily passes that threshold for me. Even better, I see a lot of versatility in the book's patterns -- with some new color and fabric selections, you can really personalize them in your own style.
Would you be happy to add Stash Happy Sewing to your library? You can win a copy for yourself, simply by leaving a comment on this post. Let me know what it is you look for in a sewing or quilting book, and what you wish there was more of in quilting books. I'd love to hear what you think!
I'll pick a random winner next Friday, 9/23. Good luck!
So fun!! I really love to sew....and quilt..what I really look for are very practical ideas and lots of great pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the bento box.
ReplyDeletewow, so cute!! i look for ones that have lots of pictures and great instructions that are easy to understand
ReplyDeleteI love books with lots of pictures. Step by step instructions. Also maybe more that 6 or 7 projects. I like to feel like I am getting a lot for my money. This looks like a cute book. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI look for at least 3-4 projects that I would like to make and also maybe learn a new technique or trick.
ReplyDeleteI'm always a sucker for a new tote pattern... can't get enough of those, it seems!
ReplyDeleteI agree with diane - any place I can learn a new technique, and a few patterns with good, step-by-step pictures. Oh, and a glossary! No need to confuse a beginner like me, right? :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
I usually look for a book in which the patterns aren't too complicated. I also look for books that have colorful illustrations, and that have projects that I would like to do.
ReplyDeleteThat log cabin tote is so cute! I look for a book to teach me a technique along with a couple patterns that use the technique. But it's mainly the technique I buy the book for. My favorite patterns often offer alternate colorways or tips for how to customize or alter the pattern to suit different tastes. If I shell out for a pattern I usually will make several versions and often give the results as gifts. My friends all have different styles so patterns that offer variations are highly prized.
ReplyDeleteGreat review, John! I always look for books that have lots of great photos that are good for inspiration. There are so many quilting related books out there right now, of such a wide variety, that there's something for everyone.
ReplyDeleteMy husband offered me a "challenge" (i.e., put his foot down), that I had to work my way through my out-of-control stash before I can buy any more fabric. This book would sure give me some good ideas of what to use up my stash on!
ReplyDeleteCute book. I will buy a book if it looks like there are several projects i can make. I also love beautiful pictures and great fabric. We all by books to be inspired don't we?!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with the panda bolster shown in this book. I'd like to see more free motion quilting designs in quilt books. I'm just getting to the point where I'd like to experiment with shapes & not just stippling or straight lines. I also love having plenty of pictures to follow.
ReplyDeleteI love quilt books. I look for something different when I am thinking of buying one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win what looks like a great book.
just good ole patterns, thanks! cute book
ReplyDeleteI will state for the record now that I would never be caught dead in a Scoodie, but I'd love to make that bento cover for casserole toting!!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThe cactus pin cushion is too cute. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I love books with small projects in it. They are fast, easy to fit into daily busy life and great for gifts! Thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteLove the look of this book :D I wish books had more technical info. More measurment comparisons etc :)
ReplyDeleteI love books with ideas for using my considerable stash of fabrics and recyclable textiles! Also ones with good pictures and pattern explanations - would love to have this one!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful book! I don't buy a book unless it has several patterns I want to make. Or, I'll check it out from the library and if I still want it after I've had it for 3 weeks I know I want to purchase it! That bento box is too cute, and I love the cactus!
ReplyDeleteWhen I look for sewing books, I like "different" projects, something you don't see everyday, but makes you think "hey, that looks simple and useful!" I also like projects that are versatile and make me explore my own creativity.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a book I would use. That is what I want to buy. One with several projects in a variety of styles to try. Thanks for the opportunity to get a copy.
ReplyDeleteThis looks a great book!
ReplyDeleteI would agree that with patterns here around the £10 mark I would always choose a book - it only needs a couple I like to justify the purchase.
I like lots of pictures/line drawings in my books
Ilike to look for versatility and lots of picture in books! Thanks foe the giveaway
ReplyDeleteI look for cute or useful projects. Lots of instructive pictures is always a plus :)
ReplyDeleteLove the cactus pincushion!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I think that books are great value for money. I always look for book that contain smaller scale project. I like to give handmade gift whenever possible so I look for books with projects that will make great gifts and projects that will appeal to a wide range of ages.
Thanks for the chance to win, fingers crossed :-)
This book looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI tend to go for books with bright and bold quilts and projects, I especially love it when there are things for boys included!
What a lovely book idea. The bolster is so cute, im not sure I could see myself making it but it looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI def need something like this, as I have FAR too many scraps at the moment.
I, like you, look for things I'll actually make or tips I'll actually use when I buy a book.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I like winning them better. :)
Thx for the chance.
I look for a seeing book that has projects that I would want to make at least half of them. I also want to see some new tips/tricks that I haven't gotten 100 times before. For example, not every free motion quilting book needs to teach me the basics of putting a quilt together.
ReplyDeleteAwesome book! I've been looking for a good "bucket apron" pattern for a while. When I buy a sewing book, it does have to have 3-4 projects I think I would make, but I don't mind projects that aren't "me" if the pictures are beautiful and inspiring. akmajor (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteBecause I'm still a newish quilter I look for books with approachable projects. Nothing too intense. I also like it tutorias or a glossary explaining terms. (When I first started quilting I kept reading books that referred to the chaining, but couldn't figure out what it was!)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'd love to win this! When I look for crafting books, I tend to just look for beautiful pictures first, then I take a second look to see whether I'd actually make any of the items, rather than just ogle them for eye candy.
ReplyDeleteI like books worth lots of variety. I can modify quilt patterns once I have the idea, do many variations on a theme dont help me.
ReplyDeleteI also like lots of pictures to use as inspiration.
I like it when a project is shown in different colors. I have a hard time seeing something in colors I like so I just skip it!
ReplyDeleteLove that Bento box. Such cute designs!
ReplyDeleteI look for stuff that doesn't look too hard!! I love to be inspired but hard/time consuming projects tend to scare me off!
ReplyDeletethe bucket and the bento box are so cute!
ReplyDeletethank you for the pictures
That book looks awesome! I mean I won't buy a book unless I know I will make at least 3-4 of the projects...keeps my wallet happy! But just from what you showed us I would love this book!
ReplyDeleteIt's SOOOOo time to make Christmas presents and your photos have my mind a whirling...gonna go put this on my wishlist and hope I can delete it because I won it here!;)
As far as other books...I'm a visual person so more photos of a project in progress and line drawings is great for me...if I flip through a book and there is WAY more type than photos I will put it down.
Hi John. I like books with projects that inspire me and make me want to go beyond looking, to actually doing. Also, with Christmas right around the corner, I like to find projects that can be created relatively quickly.
ReplyDeletewow - love that log cabin bucket.
ReplyDeletei guess the way for me to answer the question is to say "why do i buy this book and not this one?" i get SO much inspiration from blogs, that i very rarely feel the need to buy a book. but when i do, it's one that is full of quality, original, well-detailed patterns. i do love sewing 3-dimensionally, so this type of quilting is right up my alley. if it's just a book with patterns that i've seen before, in the same color combinations as everyone else, i am not at all interested. does that help?
I'm with DeeRoo; I have to see more than one or two things in a book that I'd honestly intend to make before buying one. I have to have budget money left for fabrics, after all!
ReplyDeleteMy dream quilt books would all come with blank sheets, printed with the quilt block design, and a set of colored pencils. That way, maybe, I could have an easier time figuring out what colors to make mine, and wouldn't have to try and draw out my own! Dream on, Annie...dream on....
if the fabric used in the projects is good, the book is more likely to stand out to me. i think, "if they like this fabric, they'll probably make cool things!"
ReplyDelete..and that panda bolster...oh my!!!
I think the most important quality is, as others have said, some new technique/method. Of course, good packaging, modern fabric choices are also likely to grab me. I like Annie K's answer-some blank pages to modify the designs would be a fun addition.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
I like books with clear, concise directions and either great drawings or photos. As to what I'd like to see more of, maybe it's what I'd like to see less of. Often a book, which is not pretending to ben an encyclopedia or primer on quilting gives everything you need to know to start to quilt. For someone who knows how, it is redundant and usually nothing new. Fine for a basic book, but not for one which is not really intended to "teach" quilting.
ReplyDeleteI like books with great photos, so that I can get a really good look at the project. I like projects that are quick and easy as well. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeletePictures are a must! Also detailed explanation if a technique is used that isn't very common, such as Y seams.
ReplyDeleteI don't have much of a stash yet, but see some fun things in there!
ReplyDeleteOMG that panda bolster rocks! So fun! I always get frustrated with books that don't have enough pictures. I love diagrams of the steps in the project too. I am a visual learner and I have to understand how a project goes together before I can commit to making it. : )
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try that lunchbox, looks intriguing :)
ReplyDeleteI love pandas so that project would be one I would have to do. Also the bucket for in the car. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this review! I normally ignore book reviews (guilty!), but the photo of the panda bolster caught my attention. I'm going to try to get my hands on my own copy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great book, nad I love that tote bucket, such a great pattern! I hope I win!!
ReplyDeleteJenny in Florida (jenny.brooks@verizon.net)
I've had my eye on this book--would love to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI like to look for ideas on books that I think i can do and that I can alter a bit to my own tastes
ReplyDeletei love that bucket! i look for lots of projects i want to make (at least half) and i wish we saw more things like this book has- something beyond pillows and blankets, like the bucket and the bento box. very clever.
ReplyDeletei was drawn to quilting because of scrappy quilts, not coordinated and designed ones. i've grown to love those, too, in the months since i started, but i love these scrappy projects!
ReplyDeleteProjects that use up scraps are always a good idea. Books with those projects are a super idea. I'd love to see what else is in that book.
ReplyDeleteYes, please! I would very much like to win a copy of this book!
ReplyDeleteI like books that offer options or ways to change the pattern for different purposes or sizes.
ReplyDeleteI treasure books that have lots of small quick gift options, especially when it helps me use my stash. I would love to win this book, Thank you for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThe projects in the book look like lots of fun, I love the panda pillow. I always need quick, cute ideas for scraps (I have a ...........few ........ boxes of them hiding out around the house and garage.)
ReplyDeleteI LOOK FOR CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS+PHOTOS+THIS BOOK LOOKS LIKE IT HAS THAT! THANKS FOR SHARING!
ReplyDeletejldouglas@wispwest.net
I agree, if a book has atleast 2-3 projects I think I will make I will buy the book. So far I love almost every project you showed so I'm thinking I would love this book!
ReplyDeleteBento box is gorgeous! So as log cabin bucket. I wish I could win as see (sew:) rest of the goodies:)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a really great new book. I love the panda and the bucket. And the cactus on the cover is really cute too! Thanks for the chance to win a copy.
ReplyDeleteI'm drawn to anything first by color and value, then the project. I also love book tours or reviews like you have here. I want to see what's in there. If there are one or two projects I like, I'll buy the book. Ohhhhh one more thing I'm always looking for free shipping.
ReplyDeleteMy stash is getting out of hand, so I'm loving scrappy or stash sewing so this is a great idea for this book. Also the pillow is definitely a cute factor!
I have to see several patterns I'd like to make with well-organized instructions. Extra points for showing different color/fabric combinations, multiple sizes for quilts, and quilting suggestions.
ReplyDeleteMostly, though, I pick my sewing books up at tag sales and used bookstores, so price is the major factor for me.
That tote is so cute! When I'm picking out a sewing or quilting book, I look for lots of pictures and thorough instructions. I would love to add this book to my collection! :)
ReplyDeleteThese look like so much fun! I like that they're not your typical yoga bag and hot pad patterns!
ReplyDeleteThis book looks great! I'd love to get my hands on it!
ReplyDeleteI like to see great directions in the book, ones that are clear to follow. It of course has to have patterns that would make great gifts, as well as be great for ME too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I know I have many beloved (but teeny) scraps I'd love to use in cute ways.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to add this book to my sewing library. I like seeing unique projects and patterns. I also love when books include tips. Since I'm self taught it is really helpful.
ReplyDeleteI look for at least three projects that I'd like to make. I love it when craft books show alternate fabric choices and have instructions for different sizes of things.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win! The panda pillow and bucket look super fun!
I look for either several projects I'd like to make as is or several projects I'd like to transform into something my own. If I can find the projects to transform, I usually get more out of a book, since my creative juices get flowing and I may make a project similar to what's in the book several times. :)
ReplyDeleteI look for a book that has at least 2-3 projects that I would make as-is, and then at least 1-2 others that serve as a springboard for inspiration. I also look for photography that showcases the projects well.
ReplyDeleteJohn, I bet your wife would look good in a scoodie!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I read your review; I might not have considered this book otherwise. I look for the book to have at least four projects that I'd make...not kinda like to make, but actually make. Also, must have pictures! Even nicer if there are pictures of the project in more than one colorway or a variation of the project. Sometimes, I just get stuck.
ReplyDeletei look for a book with a lot of pictures! Otherwise I might get stuck...I love the panda!
ReplyDeleteOooh, count me in on the drawing for this! It looks totally cute.
ReplyDeletechancyf (at) gmail (d0t) com
This book looks like fun! I am so stuck in sewing with stash it's not funny, so every idea helps. :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhile I appreciate all the time and effort that goes into pattern making, I tend to stick with patterns that are more on the realistically doable side. I'd love a penguin/panda/poodle pillow... but would I actually make one. I love that Log Cabin bucket - now that's something I'd actually make.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a slow learner and the directions have to be perfect for me to get, and of course creative new ideas are always something I'm looking for! This book looks perfect! Thanks!
ReplyDeletelog cabin bucket!! YES...I am on the hunt for different box/bucket patterns to fill my sewing room (need a place to put all those scraps) Would love to win the book
ReplyDeleteWhat I am looking for in a quilting book and what I wish there was more of in a quilting book are one & the same...more practical items: practical items. I want items I can use...like the bucket. That is a usable item. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun. I like pictures, plenty of pictures in a book. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteThat panda is to die for!
ReplyDeletewow, often I look at new books and think....well, there's really only one or two things I'd actually like to try in that. But this one, all of the pages you highlighted are things that I'd like to try, and if it made me use my stash, then surely that's only a bonus. And that panda.....how cute is that?!
ReplyDeleteI'd sure be able to use this book! Looks good. When looking at a book I like there to be at least 3 projects I'll make in it.
ReplyDeleteI like to learn from sewing and quilting books tips form the experts and to be taught step by step the different techniques of sewing and quilting. I guess, I gave away that I'm a rookie :) Also, i like books that have projects at different levels of experience.
ReplyDeletenaslyyadid(at)gmail(dot)com
I love to see pictures and clear instructions. I also like to see patterns at different levels of experience. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this book.
ReplyDeleteI love to get books due to the cost per pattern issue also. I feel that book are a great bang for your buck. I look for books with lots of pictures, with partical projects, things that may be quick and somewhat simple.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking book. They are my favorite things to win!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the book review. I look for a quilting book that has quilts that I like and can make, good photos and diagrams, concise and reliable instructions, and an excellent index, TOC, and "resources" list. Love the panda bolster.
ReplyDeleteThis book looks like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteThe book looks amazing
ReplyDeleteWhen I buy a book. It needs to have two to three items at least that I would like to make but in the long run it can be a fantastic deal if you enjoy most of the book. I love patchwork and this book looks tempting!
ReplyDeleteHugs

This book looks like a lot of fun. I like to use up my scraps - and I'm not a hoarder, so anything that gets my scraps out of my cupboard is good. I look for a book that has cute but fast little giveaways for Christmas and birthdays.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of using your scraps. I just bagged up 4 bags of scraps for charity quilts. Would love to win the book. My email is colemansharon@me.com
ReplyDeleteSharon
I like books that are original like this one because it's not just about making quilts- I love the the idea of "projects". Thanks for the book review.
ReplyDeleteLove the Bento Box.
ReplyDeleteI like pictures of finished items, particularly like it when the item has been made a couple of times in totally different styles of fabric.
Also like books that have a range of projects from full quilts to little scrappy items I can make in an evening.
I love new techniques / tricks / tips in books/magazines. and I prefer diagrams over pictures... still not sure why, lol
ReplyDeleteNew ideas, clear photos and instructions.
ReplyDeleteI like simple techniques, a design that looks effective but is simple to put together, and some kind of indication as to where the seams are supposed to go, because I'm really bad at working those out myself!
ReplyDeleteI love good clear instuctions and variety! thanks for the lovely review and giveaway.
ReplyDeletebutler83ataoldotcom
Hi! Just found your blog and I love it so have "grabbed your button" (hope it didn't hurt :-).
ReplyDeleteI'd love a copy of this book (especially the Bento box) and if I were to win would happily pay postage as I am based in the UK.
Leigh
Would love to win a copy of this book. In quilt & sewing books, I like good instructions with pictures of the process & a nice clear picture of the finished product. And if you're going to say "Quilt as desired", then please add "this quilt was quilted with ___" & maybe show a close-up of the quilting too. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI always look for at least 4 projects that I would honestly make or 4 techniques that are new to me. Thanks for hosting the contest!
ReplyDeleteI love practical patterns with a twist, or variations to make it personal. This book looks like a keeper. Thanks for the give away!!!
ReplyDeleteI like CLEAR directions. :) And good pictures. And stuff I would actually use.
ReplyDeleteWhat I look for in a quilting book are good pictures and clear directions. What I wish there was more of in quilting books is variations on the "fabric requirements".... you know, say I want to make a quilt out of jelly roll strips but the pattern calls for fat quarters-- I just wish I didn't have to "redo" the math. I'm an ENGLISH teacher after all ;)

Quilt pattern books are great but a book with something like that log cabin bucket really catch my eye.
ReplyDeleteI look for a multitude of paterns I'd like to make, beautiful pictures, and clearly written directions that might even introduce new-to-me techniques.
ReplyDeleteWould love love love to win this one! I am a sewing book freak!
ReplyDeleteCute book! I love the cactus!
ReplyDeleteI hate a ton of fabric screaming to be used on these projects. So cute and unique.
ReplyDeleteI love lots of pictures in a book and project made in fabrics I love. I do like original, unusual designs. I love that Panda, my brother writes stories and there is a panda character and I may just have to buy this to make him a panda pillow. (If I don't win, that is). Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeletethis looks like such a cute book!
ReplyDeletewhen I buy books, I like to see projects in a variety of levels. I'm still a bit of a beginner, but I like finding books that I can grow into, if that makes sense!
I look for at least 4 or 5 patterns or ideas that really jazz me. Clear tutorial directions (with photos) also rock.
ReplyDeleteApart from actually liking and wanting to make the patterns, I look for really clear, concise instructions and good pictures of the process - so I can somewhat follow along without too many dramas!
ReplyDeleteI am super excited about the bento box! I am sure there are many goof ideas in there, but you don't see those suggestions often!
ReplyDeleteI really wish more books had a page of palettes to go with every project, like matching solids with prints. Not just sticking to one fabric line, mixing matching. Like in different colorways that suit most tastes. I know they usually do a couple but maybe like 9 choices for everyone would help with the mental block of starting a new project :)
ReplyDeletekatrina_hertzer2000 (at) yahoo (dot) com
This book looks really cool. Ilove books with decent pictures of the finished projects and books that contain a goodvariety of projects.
ReplyDeletevicqui_jo (at) hotmail (dot) com
Like the look of this .... I need clear instructions and lots of photographs from all angles.
ReplyDeleteGreat Blog by the way!
I look for great photos that inspire me...I don't like drawings. I have a few books and I've bought all of them mainly on the look. Sometimes I just need to sit and browse a book and am inspired quite often to make something quite different!
ReplyDeleteI've just been given Modern Quilting Bee Block Party and love it.
thanks for a great giveaway
I agree on the 2 to 3 project rule for a book. A lot of folks have said pictures, I can't agree more on that either. I've just used a jelly roll book and it mostly went well for the 1rst project :)
ReplyDeletemjwolanin@gmail.com
I love books that have at least 3-4 projects I'd like to make, great color pictures of the projects, easy to follow directions (pics if needed),can you tell I'm a visual kinda person?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great review, the giveaway and a chance to win.
usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com
That bucket reminds me of a handyman bucket apron but more stylish. I like the overall hardware it uses for the strap. As for books, I like good photos of the finished project up close and from a distance as well as labels photos with clear instruction. Thank you for the review and giveaway.
ReplyDeletelots of easy patterns with pretty pictures!
ReplyDeleteI like to get books that have several projects that I'd love to make. I like lots of pictures and love to see project pictures showing different fabric options.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I look for projects that I can give my own touch. I also like when quilting books show the same pattern in several colourways.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be a very fun book, I like the log cabin bag best. But I fail to see how you can aim for the panda cussion when you are intimidated by simple skirts ;o))) Just kidding ;o)
ReplyDeleteBut onto your questions! In a sewing book I'm looking for new, fresh projects that are really useable daily - Did I say that I hate stuffed animals?!
As most sewists seem to be moms or grannies, kid's projects are always welcome, especially clothes for boys ;o)
Quilting books? Modern approach please! I love small, quick projects but it should include intimidating techniques like paper piecing or non-raw-edge appliques as well... just to encourage me to try ;o) Kid's projects always welcome...
Thanks for the review! I loves both especially when there are projects I love to made.. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I love it when a quilting book has great photos, but not just artsy photos of a quilt draped somewhere, I want to see the whole thing spread out! And easy to follow instructions are always nice...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the opportunity! I look for clear, concise instructions and pictures to illustrate each step. I think that's pretty universal, but there it is. Again, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love lots of pictures, easy to read instructions/fonts, and lots of color!! :) This book looks like it fits those guidelines!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI look for sewing/quilting books that have projects in them that I will actually use and/or can gift. Books with lots of photos and step by step instructions...I'm a visual learner and this is a must.
ReplyDeleteI love projects that use fat quarters!
ReplyDeletesuper cute! I'd love some inspiration and patterns!
ReplyDeleteIf I don't win this give-away, I will buy this book. It looks like there are a few projects I would make.
ReplyDeleteThe book looks very cute with fun and great projects. Thanks for the review!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with most of the comments - I look for a book that has more than one project that I would make. Also, I love to see the photos - a picture is worth a thousand words.
ReplyDeleteI once read or heard the comment that if you purchase cookbooks but don't make any of the recipes then you are a reader of cookbooks, not a cook. I have to admit that I am a reader of almost anything. I love project books,I love to see what can be made, however, with good intentions, occasionally I actually do make some of the projects. At least I would like to see and read. I even cook from my cookbooks, sometimes.
ReplyDeleteLove that bento box! What a great idea. In any sewing or craft book, I look for projects that are at my current skill level, and slightly above it so that I can "grow into" the book. I also look for projects that I can not only use as is, but projects I can use for inspiration and alter them to make them more "me". :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful project book.....great review!!
ReplyDelete19angel52@sbcglobal.net
This book looks like great FUN! The photos are too cute. Can't wait to get started. Thank you for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI am looking for practical uses of some products...and not sew much geared for children...in quilt books I look for clear pictures of different techniques but with a modern twist.
ReplyDeleteI love the cactus, that is so fun! I buy quilt books with technique lessons on quilting I haven't tried and with good pictures for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm a fairly new (male! holla!) quilter. I don't have any books, but what I really need is a book with simple patterns and clear instructions. I'm also tired of the cutesy-baby-putabirdonit thing. There definitely needs to be more modern designs out htere.
ReplyDeletei look for doable projects in a quilt book...doable for me and something i'd actually make instead of putting the book aside after reading it once. I esp like the log cabin bucket, too.
ReplyDeleteI love quilting...and I love quilting books that have lots of GOOD pictures, and easy to follow directions, as well as diagrams.
ReplyDeleteOooh! I love the looks of that book. I am always on the lookout for boy-appropriate quilted gifts. Panda pillow is a must have I think..
ReplyDeleteAh, I would love to win this book... Of course if I don't I'll still go and purchase it as you said, it so worth the cost when there are more than a few of the projects I would make.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win this book and try out that bucket! In a book, I like to see at least a few of the projects that appeal to me before purchasing it. I also like to see a variety of skill levels. I find myself somewhere in the middle, so easy ones are nice for when I don't want to think alot and hard ones for when I'm looking for a challenge.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like an awesome book! I like lots of pictures, a variety of projects with some that are easy and some hard, and different levels of time commitment!
ReplyDeleteThe book looks great,m plenty of ideas. things to make for my gransons and family, thanks Anne
